I don't know much about Nunavut so I wouldn't be any good at picking up things she got wrong. I did feel the portrayal of a 12-year-old girl was accurate, but I'm probably thinking of myself at 12, and everyone is so different. The book really worked for me, but I can see how (as with any book) it might not work for everyone. I would like to know how the other members of your book club responded to it too! I'm a writer as well, and I don't think it's jealousy, although I can really relate to your comment about that. I am not liking the novel. I don't think the portrayal of a 12 year old girl is very apt (I have one at home). I live in Nunavut (and have for the past ten years) so I'm a bit miffed at some of the things that I feel she got wrong culturally speaking. I can't relate to a woman who is 24 and has no idea that she is homosexual. Can she really be that unenlightened? Perhaps I'm the one who is unenlightened! I don't feel like I can really relate to either character very well. Maybe I'll feel differently when I'm done the book, but I'm 3/4 done.
